The rift between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has escalated, with her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, stepping in to demand respect for his wife.
In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom, expressed disappointment over Akpabio’s treatment of Natasha, urging him to maintain dignity and decorum.
“I would never trade her for anything; she is the greatest joy of my life,” he declared, lamenting that the ongoing dispute was overshadowing more pressing national concerns.
Uduaghan highlighted Natasha’s dedication to serving the people of Kogi Central, emphasizing that her mandate was a reflection of the trust her constituents placed in her.
He revealed that despite approaching Akpabio privately to settle their differences amicably, Natasha had continued to face what he described as harassment from the Senate President.
“As a family friend, I expected better. I personally met with Akpabio to address this matter, and we agreed to resolve it maturely. Yet, my wife still faces unnecessary attacks,” he stated.
Calling on the Senate leadership to maintain mutual respect and professionalism, Uduaghan urged Akpabio to let due process take its course rather than allowing personal grievances to overshadow legislative duties.
The public fallout between Akpabio and Natasha has sparked widespread reactions, with many calling for an end to political intimidation and a focus on governance.
