No Record Label? No Stress! Tiwa Savage Explains Why She Won’t Sign New Artists

Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has made it clear—don’t expect her to start signing upcoming artists anytime soon. The music star, known for hits like Somebody’s Son, revealed that she has no interest in managing musicians due to the stress and responsibility that comes with it.

Speaking with Forbes Africa on Thursday, Tiwa explained that she prefers to focus on creating opportunities for independent African artists rather than signing them under her wing.

“Everyone always asks me, ‘When will you sign an artist?’ But honestly, I don’t think I have the gift for that. Artists are stressful! I could be sleeping and wake up to find my artist trending for something crazy,” she joked.

Instead, Tiwa is working on a music school where aspiring talents can gain the right knowledge and later sign with labels that can truly support them.

Beyond individual success, she believes African artists should build their own thriving industry rather than chasing international validation.

“Why are we always trying to break into another market? We should be the market others are trying to break into,” she stated.

With a career that now spans music, business, and even film production—her 2024 Water and Garri project being a prime example—Tiwa is fully focused on her next chapter.

“I want to step into my mogul era—billionaire Tiwa Savage,” she declared.
