Kebbi Takes Bold Step to Fix Education with 2,000 New Teachers

In a major push to revamp the education sector, the Kebbi State Government has recruited 2,000 teachers to improve the quality of learning across its schools.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad-Bande, who also chairs the recruitment committee, made this announcement during the distribution of appointment letters to newly hired teachers in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Muhammad-Bande, an initial batch of 391 teachers—holding degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), and postgraduate qualifications—will be posted to secondary schools statewide. More names will soon be released, primarily consisting of those with a National Certificate in Education (NCE).

With 18,000 applications received and 4,000 candidates screened, the commissioner emphasized the rigorous selection process, urging the successful candidates to dedicate themselves to shaping the future of Kebbi’s youth.

“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because our governor himself is a teacher who understands the value of education,” she remarked, assuring that this recruitment drive is just the beginning.

Chairman of the Kebbi House Committee on Education, Muhammad Garba-Bena, praised Governor Nasir Idris for prioritizing education, adding that the recruitment exercise will continue until the state has enough teachers to bridge its education gap.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, encouraged the new recruits to give their best for the growth of education in the state and beyond.
