Tyson Fury has issued a strong warning to Anthony Joshua, advising him to steer clear of a rematch with Daniel Dubois. The British boxing giants, who share a storied rivalry, have long been the subject of speculation regarding a showdown in the ring, but Fury believes Joshua could face serious challenges if he faces Dubois again.
For years, fans have eagerly anticipated a fight between Fury and Joshua, two of the UK’s top heavyweights. Despite their dominant reigns in the division, a fight between the two has never materialized. Joshua’s hopes of a third world heavyweight title seemed possible after a victory over Dubois last year, which would have set up a potential clash with Fury, provided Fury could defeat Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch.
However, both men faced setbacks in 2023—Joshua suffered a fifth-round stoppage defeat, and Fury lost by decision, which led him to announce a shocking retirement from boxing. Now that a Fury vs. Joshua fight is off the table, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has indicated that a rematch with Daniel Dubois is a top priority for Joshua this year.
Despite the possibility of a rematch, Fury is skeptical of Joshua’s chances. Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Fury said, “No, I don’t think he can win the rematch. I don’t even think he will take a rematch.” This comment reflects Fury’s belief that Joshua might not have what it takes to overcome Dubois, especially after his recent struggles.
If Dubois moves forward with a title bout against Usyk, Joshua will need to focus on other contenders to stay active in the ring. Both Joseph Parker and Agit Kabayel, who hold interim titles, are potential opponents for Joshua as he looks to position himself for a bigger fight later in the year.
