A Nigerian man, Fatai Odunsi, has sparked online discussions after publicly claiming to be the biological father of Afrobeats superstar Asake. In an emotional plea, Odunsi, who says he has been battling a stroke since 2022, lamented that the singer has ignored him and refused to answer his calls.
In a now-viral video, the elderly man revealed that he last saw Asake on March 29, 2022, before his health took a turn for the worse. “I am Asake’s father, but since I fell sick, he has abandoned me,” Odunsi said, his voice heavy with emotion. “I call him, but he does not pick up. I have tried everything.”
Beside him in the video, a man identified as Sonibare—who claimed to be his brother—backed Odunsi’s claims and appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance.
“He is the father of Ololade Mr Money, whom we all know as Asake,” Sonibare said. “We are asking Nigerians to help because he is broke and struggling. I have done all I can, but now I have no choice but to come to the public.”
The video has since stirred mixed reactions, with many questioning the legitimacy of the claim, while others expressed sympathy for Odunsi’s condition.
Asake, one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars, is yet to respond to the allegations.
