Lagos Motor Fair Shines as Electric Vehicles Take Center Stage

For the first time in Nigeria’s auto show history, electric vehicles (EVs) are making a bold statement at the Lagos Motor Fair, with three major manufacturers showcasing their cutting-edge models under one roof at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

The three-day event, which began on Wednesday and wraps up today, has brought a refreshing twist to the automotive scene, featuring electric cars, hybrid vehicles, CNG-powered cars, and electric motorbikes.

Among the standout exhibitors is Taocars, which unveiled two of its sleek electric sedans, designed for long-range travel and built for durability. Taocars’ Managing Director, Moise Niu, described them as trendy, rugged, and cost-effective, while Marketing Manager Ifeanyi Ugbuaja emphasized their luxury appeal, noiseless operation, and affordability.

Another crowd-puller is Bestune, presenting its compact yet surprisingly spacious Xiaoma model— a stylish three-door mini EV built for efficiency and ease of use. Manufactured by FAW Automobile, a brand well-known in Nigeria’s truck industry, the Xiaoma is being marketed as a fun, safe, and practical choice for city driving.

But the real show-stealer? Benlg Electric Motorcycles, which turned heads with its sleek, futuristic designs. The company, which just launched production in Shagamu, showcased its diverse range of electric bikes, including the Tank, Anan, Boxer, and Outstanding models. With a manufacturing capacity of 10,000 motorbikes per month, Managing Director Leon Nie expressed confidence in leading Nigeria’s shift to electric two- and three-wheelers.

Also making waves is Geely’s plug-in hybrid sedan, displayed by Icheta, flaunting a luxurious smart interior. Meanwhile, Kia Motors showcased its eco-friendly CNG-powered Rio Sedan, which boasts 50% better fuel efficiency than petrol cars.

With the increasing push towards cleaner energy and sustainable mobility, the Lagos Motor Fair 2024 is proving that Nigeria’s automotive future is electrifying—literally!
