U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reiterated the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies, warning that some green card holders and foreign students could face deportation if deemed not in the country’s best interest.
In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Vance stressed that holding a green card does not guarantee permanent residency, adding that the U.S. will ramp up deportations as part of its broader immigration crackdown.
“A green card holder doesn’t have an indefinite right to be in the United States,” Vance stated. “This is not just about free speech or national security—it’s about who we, as Americans, decide should be part of our national community.”
He further hinted that international students studying in the U.S. could be removed if authorities believe their presence does not align with national interests.
“I think we’ll certainly see some people deported on student visas if we determine it’s not in the best interest of the United States to have them here,” he said.
Vance also took aim at elite universities, accusing them of prioritizing wealthy foreign students over middle-class American applicants.
“A lot of these foreign students pay full tuition. So, sometimes, a well-qualified middle-class American kid loses a spot at a school like Harvard or Columbia because a Chinese oligarch’s child, paying $100,000 a year, takes it instead,” he argued.
His remarks signal a potentially aggressive shift in U.S. immigration enforcement, especially for non-citizens, as the Trump administration pushes for stricter policies ahead of the 2028 elections.
