MTN & Airtel Join Forces: Game-Changing Network Sharing Deal in Nigeria & Uganda

MTN Group and Airtel Africa have sealed a major infrastructure-sharing deal in Nigeria and Uganda, a move set to revolutionize connectivity across Africa.

Announced on March 25, the agreement aims to expand coverage, cut costs, and boost digital and financial inclusion, particularly in underserved rural areas.

MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita highlighted the rising demand for data services, stating, “We’re committed to delivering digital solutions that drive Africa’s progress.” Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that shared infrastructure will enhance service quality while eliminating the costly duplication of telecom resources.

The initiative aligns with a global trend toward network sharing, allowing telecom giants to collaborate while maintaining competitive independence. Following the Nigeria and Uganda agreements, MTN and Airtel are now eyeing similar partnerships in Congo-Brazzaville, Rwanda, and Zambia.

With this deal, millions more Africans are set to enjoy better, more affordable connectivity—ushering in a new era of digital transformation across the continent.
