Lagos Crash Chaos: Seven Injured as Speeding Lexus Sparks Multi-Vehicle Collision

Panic gripped commuters along the Sabo-Itokin Expressway on Thursday after a reckless overtaking attempt led to a brutal multi-vehicle crash, leaving seven people injured.

The accident, which occurred at Lejina, inward Adamo, involved a Lexus 330 Jeep and two fully loaded commercial buses. According to eyewitnesses and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lexus driver, in a desperate bid to overtake, swerved back upon sighting an oncoming truck. However, he lost control, slamming into the buses and causing chaos on the busy highway.

Shockingly, the driver of the Lexus Jeep fled the scene, leaving behind injured victims and wrecked vehicles.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that officers, alongside security personnel from the Area ‘N’ Police Division, swiftly managed the situation, restoring order and clearing the road. Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) rushed the injured passengers to the General Hospital in Ikorodu for urgent medical attention.

Expressing concern over the rising cases of reckless driving, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended sympathies to the victims and emphasized the importance of road safety.

“Drivers must exercise extreme caution when overtaking. Traffic regulations exist to prevent tragedies like this,” he cautioned.

Authorities have launched an investigation to apprehend the fleeing Lexus driver, while motorists are urged to adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent future disasters.
