The Nigerian military has intensified its fight against oil theft and criminal activities, dismantling 16 illegal refinery sites across the Niger Delta in the past week.
Announcing the development on Friday, Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that troops also destroyed 29 crude oil cooking ovens, 31 dug-out pits, and 21 storage tanks used for illicit refining.
In addition, security forces arrested 11 suspected oil thieves and prevented the loss of crude oil worth over ₦536.7 million.
Massive Recoveries and Arrests
The military’s operations led to the recovery of:
- 392,174 litres of stolen crude oil
- 138,757 litres of illegally refined diesel
- 830 litres of petrol
- 375 litres of kerosene
Troops also seized 48 smuggling boats, pumping machines, drilling equipment, motorcycles, and vehicles used in illegal activities.
Nationwide Security Operations
Beyond the Niger Delta, the military launched operations against terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits across the country. Key achievements include:
Neutralization of multiple terrorists and the capture of insurgent leaders.
Rescue of kidnapped victims in Anambra, Imo, Delta, and Rivers States.
Arrests of suspected gunrunners, terrorists, and criminal masterminds.
Seizure of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, RPG tubes, explosives, and IEDs.
ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters surrendering under intensified military pressure.
Military’s Commitment to Security
Maj. Gen. Kangye assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain committed to national security, urging citizens to report suspicious activities.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue to protect lives and property in line with our Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct,” he affirmed.
With the military stepping up operations, the crackdown on oil theft and insecurity is gaining momentum, ensuring a safer and more stable Nigeria.
