Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has been confirmed as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party for the 2027 general election following the party’s review of its primary election process.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) approved the report of its Primaries Appeal Committee after examining petitions arising from the presidential primary and other internal contests. According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the committee upheld the outcome of the presidential primary and affirmed Duke as the duly elected flagbearer of the party.

The PRP said the review was concluded on June 5, with the NWC endorsing the committee’s findings. The party stated that Duke’s emergence as candidate followed due process and remained valid after the appeal process was completed.

In addition to confirming its presidential candidate, the party announced that 420 candidates had been cleared to contest various elective positions across the country in the 2027 elections. However, the primary election conducted for Tarauni Federal Constituency was nullified, making it the only exception among the contests reviewed by the committee.

The PRP said the decisions reflected its commitment to internal democracy and credible electoral processes. The party added that it remains focused on providing what it described as transformative leadership and effective representation for Nigerians.

Duke, who served as governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, secured the party’s presidential ticket after emerging victorious in the PRP primary election held in Abuja. He defeated other aspirants, including Kingsley Yakubu and Dr. Nnaoke Ufere, to clinch the nomination.
