Ludvig Åberg claimed his second PGA Tour title in thrilling fashion, finishing with a strong six-under 66 to win the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines. The 25-year-old Swede secured a one-stroke victory over Maverick McNealy, who had charged into contention with an impressive back-nine but fell short.

Åberg’s remarkable run of four birdies in his final six holes put him in control, and a clutch seven-foot birdie putt on the 18th sealed the victory, leaving him at 12-under for the tournament. His finish was a reflection of steady composure, highlighted by an important par save from a bunker on the 12th that kept him in contention.

“It was awesome, a great fight,” said Åberg. “I felt like I was in control of the ball all day and really proud of how I finished. The putt on 12 was key because it kept me in the mix, and coming down the stretch with the chance to win was a really special feeling.”

McNealy, who had a 38-foot par putt on the first hole and went on to make nine birdies in 12 holes, finished second with a 64, ending at 11-under. His performance was impressive but ultimately faltered when a bogey on the 14th opened the door for Åberg.

Patrick Rodgers, in search of his first PGA Tour win after 286 attempts, saw his hopes dashed by bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. He finished tied for third with world number one Scottie Scheffler, who shot a solid 66 to finish at 9-under. Scheffler had briefly shared the lead but will regret a tough third round of 76.

England’s Tommy Fleetwood shot a 68 to finish tied fifth at 8-under, while Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy posted a level-par 72, ending the tournament at 3-under.

Åberg’s win catapults him to fourth in the world rankings, further cementing his rise as one of golf’s most exciting young talents.
