Defenseman Charlie McAvoy, a key player for both Team USA and the Boston Bruins, has reportedly been hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to The Boston Globe. While details of his condition remain unclear, McAvoy is dealing with an upper-body injury that kept him out of Monday’s 2-1 loss to Sweden.

The American squad was already short-handed in that game, with forwards Matthew Tkachuk and Auston Matthews sitting out and Brady Tkachuk exiting early due to injury. Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan provided a brief update but avoided specifics.

“We’re hopeful we’re going to get some of these guys back,” Sullivan said. “I would anticipate we would. We’ll have to wait and see how things play out over the next day or so.”

McAvoy, 27, has a history of upper-body injuries, including a shoulder surgery in 2022 that sidelined him for six months. The Bruins defenseman has tallied seven goals and 16 assists this season, making his availability crucial for both Team USA and Boston.
