Jose Peseiro’s debut as head coach of Zamalek ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw against Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League.
The game, held at Zamalek’s Al-Salam Stadium, looked set to conclude as a dull goalless draw, with neither side finding the back of the net through regular play. However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, Petrojet’s Mostafa El Gamal scored a late goal, putting Zamalek on the brink of defeat.
But fortune smiled on Peseiro’s men just a minute later. Ahmed Mawgod of Petrojet scored an own goal in the 95th minute, leveling the match at 1-1 and salvaging a point for Zamalek.
While it wasn’t the debut victory Peseiro had hoped for, the dramatic finish leaves Zamalek three points behind league leaders Al Ahly, with the club looking to bounce back under the new manager’s leadership.
