Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has attributed his team’s 1-0 defeat to Enyimba FC to missed opportunities, emphasizing that a lack of clinical finishing made all the difference in the tight contest.

Playing at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Rivers United fell behind in the first half when Imot Obot curled in a stunning free-kick, which ultimately decided the game.

Speaking after the match, Finidi reflected on the missed opportunities that could have turned the tide in their favor.

“Before Enyimba scored, we had a clear one-on-one chance, but we didn’t take it. That could have completely changed the game,” Finidi said.

He also raised concerns about the officiating, particularly regarding a free-kick decision that went against his team.

“The free-kick they scored from is debatable because we had a similar situation, and it wasn’t given to us. But that’s football,” he added.

Despite the loss, the former Super Eagles winger praised his team’s performance and fighting spirit.

“We pushed hard in the second half, made some tactical changes, and tried to get back in the game. It’s been a while since we played this well, and I must commend the players for their effort,” he concluded.

With this defeat, Rivers United will be looking to bounce back in their next fixture as they aim to stay competitive in the NPFL title race.
