A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of 300 birds at a farm in the Bassa Local Government Area. Dr. Shase’et Sipak, the state’s Chief Veterinary Officer, announced the news on Wednesday, revealing that the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Vom confirmed the outbreak through laboratory tests.
Following the suspected outbreak, officials swiftly took action by collecting samples, which were later confirmed as positive for avian influenza. To contain the spread, the farm has been sealed off, and strict biosecurity measures have been implemented.
