Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have dismissed reports suggesting they were being charged between N5,000 and N10,000 for dockets before being allowed to sit for exams.

Recent claims circulating on social media alleged that some departments demanded exorbitant fees from students. However, an investigation revealed that students are actually required to pay between N500 and N2,500 for dockets, far from the rumored N10,000.

Speaking with Vanguard, Kingsley Eze, a student from the Faculty of Arts, clarified:
“No, we were not asked to pay N10,000 for dockets. I heard some departments charge as much as N2,500, but in my department, we only paid N500. Plus, it’s not even compulsory.”

When asked whether students who didn’t pay would be denied access to exams, Eze responded, “Not at all.”

Another student from the Faculty of Management Sciences, who requested anonymity, explained that the fees being misrepresented were actually semester dues, which students were expected to have paid earlier.

“The total dues for my department this semester are N9,000, but that includes faculty dues, association dues, and club fees—not just for dockets,” the 300-level student stated.

This clarification puts to rest speculations that students were being unfairly charged high fees just to sit for their exams.
