Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred the political space again, claiming that some of his critics only wished him a happy 65th birthday because President Bola Tinubu did first.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai thanked his well-wishers, but took a swipe at those who hesitated to acknowledge his milestone.

“I want to thank everyone that sent me their prayers and best wishes, including those that didn’t want to until President Tinubu’s message shamed them into action,” he wrote.

El-Rufai, who has been vocal about issues within the All Progressives Congress (APC), turned 65 on February 16, 2025.

Reflecting on the overwhelming messages he received, he expressed gratitude but admitted he couldn’t respond to everyone individually.

“The prayers and good wishes were quite humbling and gratifying, but far too many for individual acknowledgment,” he said.

He added that while he tried to repost and share as many birthday messages as possible, he may have missed some unintentionally.

“If I didn’t with yours, please forgive me. It is an omission of the head, not of the heart,” he pleaded.

El-Rufai wrapped up his message with a prayer, hoping for continued good health and a flourishing Nigeria where democracy and equal opportunity thrive.
