Kano APC in Turmoil as Minister Rejects Ganduje’s Anointed Chairman

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a deepening crisis as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, openly opposes the party’s state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas—who has been backed by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Speaking at a meeting of the APC Caucus in Fagge ahead of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting next week, Atta warned that the APC risks another electoral loss in Kano if Abbas remains in charge.

Ganduje is allegedly determined to retain Abbas as chairman despite his nearly 10-year tenure leading the party in the state.

Atta, visibly frustrated, declared that the party lost the 2023 governorship election because it “challenged God” and vowed to defect if the leadership remains unchanged.

“If they bring him back, we will leave. The party will surely fail again. We refuse to align with such leadership. No amount of money or votes can secure power—it is God who gives power. We won the election fairly, but fraud was committed against us. We went to court, and it was proven. Yet, in the end, the One who gives power withheld it from us,” Atta stated.

His comments add to the growing division within the Kano APC, as the party struggles to wrest control from the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). With tensions rising, the upcoming NEC meeting could determine the fate of APC’s leadership and its chances in future elections.
