After more than a decade of unanswered questions, the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has officially resumed. Maritime exploration firm Ocean Infinity has launched a fresh mission to locate the missing aircraft, Malaysia’s transport minister, Anthony Loke, confirmed on Tuesday.

While contract details between the Malaysian government and Ocean Infinity are still being finalized, Loke commended the company for taking the initiative to deploy its ships. The timeline for the search remains open-ended, and the exact start date of this latest operation has not been disclosed.

The Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, vanished on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Despite the most extensive and costly search in aviation history, the wreckage has never been found, leaving families and experts without closure.

A Second Chance at Discovery

Ocean Infinity’s renewed mission follows its first unsuccessful search in 2018, which was conducted under a “no find, no fee” agreement with the Malaysian government. Loke confirmed that the same arrangement applies this time: if the aircraft is found, the company stands to receive $70 million.

The new search will focus on a targeted 15,000 square-kilometer area of the southern Indian Ocean, an area Ocean Infinity now believes holds the best chance of locating the wreckage.

“We’re very relieved and pleased that the search is resuming after such a long wait,” said Grace Nathan, a Malaysian citizen who lost her mother on the flight.

Mysteries and Theories Persist

Since its disappearance, MH370 has been the subject of endless speculation, ranging from mechanical failure to deliberate sabotage. A 2018 investigation report suggested that the aircraft’s course was manually altered, but without the wreckage, the full story remains elusive.

With this new search, families of the missing passengers and aviation experts alike are holding onto hope that MH370’s mystery will finally be solved.
