President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s security infrastructure, emphasizing that significant strides have been made to equip law enforcement agencies to tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.

Speaking at the fifth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressed that national security is a shared responsibility. He urged Nigerians to actively support the police in fostering a safer society.

“No matter how well-funded or equipped, the police cannot succeed without public cooperation. Security is a collective duty, and inclusive policing is essential for a safer Nigeria,” he stated.

Reinforcing the Police Force

The President announced new measures to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), including:

  • Modernized police barracks and better living conditions.
  • Improved mobility and upgraded combat and protective gear.
  • Financial incentives to boost officer motivation.
  • Recruitment and training initiatives to enhance policing efficiency.

He also reassured the public of his administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy, tackle inflation, and improve investor confidence through infrastructure development and economic reforms.

Ogun State’s Commitment to Security

Governor Dapo Abiodun highlighted the importance of trust in policing, emphasizing that law enforcement must be people-centered and technology-driven.

“We are introducing electric-powered motorcycles and AI-powered drones capable of facial recognition and number plate tracking up to 8,000 meters,” he revealed.

Abiodun further stressed the need for data-driven crime prevention, digital forensic tools, and artificial intelligence to stay ahead of criminals.

IGP’s Vision for Smarter Policing

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and international security collaborations. He revealed a nationwide plan aimed at reducing crime by 50% in 2025, ensuring that Nigeria’s policing strategies align with global best practices.

With these new security initiatives, Tinubu’s government aims to reinforce law enforcement, improve community trust, and position Nigeria on a stronger security footing.
