In a shocking turn of events, two students of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State, were abducted by armed gunmen on Tuesday evening. The incident, which occurred just outside the university’s campus, has sent ripples of fear and panic through the student body.
According to Ashar Lubem, a student of the institution, there were initially reports of four students being taken by the gunmen. However, the situation remains unclear as the students have not been heard from since the kidnapping. “Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident,” Lubem said in a phone interview on Wednesday, emphasizing the heightened tension among the university community.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, confirmed the abduction on Wednesday, stating that an investigation was underway. However, she clarified that official reports indicated only two students were kidnapped. “We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped. We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon,” Anene assured.
The campus community is on edge as the authorities work to uncover more details and locate the missing students. The motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear, but the fear among students is palpable.
