Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has fiercely defended his former manager, Jose Mourinho, after the Fenerbahce boss was accused of making racist remarks during a heated clash against Galatasaray.
The controversy erupted following a tense 0-0 draw, during which Mourinho allegedly described the Galatasaray bench as “jumping like monkeys.” In response, the Turkish club announced plans to pursue legal action, vowing to escalate the issue to UEFA and FIFA.
However, Fenerbahce dismissed the allegations as “pathetic slander”, and Drogba quickly took to social media to support Mourinho.
Drogba’s Emotional Defense
In a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), Drogba directly addressed Galatasaray, a club he once played for and still holds in high regard:
“Dear @GalatasaraySK … you know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey!!”
Acknowledging the intensity of football rivalries, Drogba firmly backed Mourinho’s character:
“Trust me when I tell you, I have known Jose for years, and he is not a racist. History, both past and recent, proves it.”
The Ivorian striker ended his post with a deeply personal statement, emphasizing the bond he shares with Mourinho:
“How can my ‘Dad’ be a racist… come on guys.”
