Lagos was electrified as Global Citizen’s Move Afrika tour made its much-anticipated stop in Nigeria, delivering an unforgettable night of music, advocacy, and cultural celebration. Headlined by EGOT-winning artist John Legend, alongside Nigerian music powerhouse Simi and DJ Consequence, the event blended high-energy performances with a strong social impact message.
Hosted by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the show was a spectacle of sound and purpose. John Legend captivated fans with soulful renditions of classics like Ordinary People, Green Light, All of Me, and Refuge, where he was joined on stage by Simi for a powerful duet.
“It’s been too long, I’ve missed you all. We belong together, Lagos,” Legend declared, rocking outfits by Eleven Sixteen and Orange Culture, while his background vocalists shone in Elexiay and Wanni Fuga designs.
Move Afrika: More Than a Concert
Expanding its reach from East to West Africa, Move Afrika is not just about music—it’s a groundbreaking initiative designed to build a sustainable touring circuit across Africa, driving economic investment, infrastructure development, and job creation.
“Nigeria’s musical heritage and global influence make it a key destination for Move Afrika,” said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans. “We’re proud to be here and look forward to returning.”
Beyond the stage, the movement champions social change. In Lagos, Global Citizen hosted the Stride for HER Rights Walkathon, bringing together thousands—including WARIF, WBFA, and NSSF—to demand improved maternal and child healthcare. Meanwhile, in Kigali, the Together for a Healthier Community initiative provided free reproductive healthcare services.
Lagos Governor Applauds Move Afrika’s Impact
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Secretary Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin praised the event’s fusion of music, culture, and advocacy.
“This celebration is a powerful reminder of how music and collective action can shape a better future for Nigeria,” she noted. “Move Afrika is more than a concert—it’s a movement tackling global challenges like poverty and climate change. Tonight is a celebration of music, hope, and our collective power to move Lagos forward.”
With 90% local crew and 95% locally sourced equipment, Move Afrika: Lagos reinforced Nigeria’s capability to host world-class productions, proving that Africa is ready to own its musical and economic future.
As the tour expands, Move Afrika is not just redefining Africa’s entertainment scene—it’s creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and driving change, one city at a time.
