The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, that northerners will re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
In a fiery response, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, insisted that neither Ganduje nor Matawalle has the authority to speak on behalf of the North, accusing them of political opportunism.
“Ganduje does not command the respect of northerners—not even in Kano, his home state. He is simply trying to justify his position in the APC,” Abdullahi said in a telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard.
“The North Is Suffering Under APC”
Abdullahi argued that the North has suffered the most under APC rule, first under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and now under Tinubu, whom he claimed has lost the confidence of the region.
“The North overwhelmingly voted for Tinubu in 2023, giving him 5.6 million of his 8 million votes. Yet, today, it is the region feeling the harshest economic hardship. Where does he expect to get votes in 2027?”
Describing Ganduje and Matawalle’s statements as baseless propaganda, Abdullahi urged them to focus on governance rather than making misleading political claims.
“The North is speaking loudly and clearly. Forget these bootlickers who have sold their souls to the devil. They do not represent the North, and nobody is taking them seriously.”
As the 2027 presidential race looms, the battle for the North’s political allegiance is heating up—will the APC retain its stronghold, or will the PDP capitalize on the growing discontent?
