Fenerbahce boss José Mourinho has been slapped with a four-match suspension and a hefty €42,000 fine by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) following his controversial comments after a heated goalless draw against rivals Galatasaray.
After Monday’s fiery Istanbul derby, Mourinho sparked outrage by saying the Galatasaray bench was “jumping like monkeys” and doubling down on his long-standing criticism of Turkish referees.
While Fenerbahce insists his remarks were taken out of context, the TFF’s disciplinary council found them “contrary to sporting ethics.” As a result, Mourinho received a two-match ban for his remarks about the fourth official and another two matches for his comments directed at Galatasaray’s staff.
With Fenerbahce trailing Galatasaray by six points in the league, Mourinho’s absence from the touchline could prove costly in the title race.
