The Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH, signaling the start of the sacred month of fasting.
Announcing the sighting of the new crescent moon on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Sultan confirmed that verified reports from Islamic scholars and leaders across the country had been received, marking the end of Sha’ban.
“Based on authenticated reports of the new moon sighting, tomorrow, March 1, 2025, will be the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH,” he stated.
He urged Muslims across Nigeria to begin fasting in accordance with Islamic teachings and emphasized the importance of prayer, self-discipline, and spiritual reflection during this holy month. The Sultan also called on the faithful to pray for the nation and its leaders, seeking divine guidance for good governance and national progress.
Furthermore, he encouraged wealthy individuals to extend a hand of generosity to those in need, highlighting the significance of charity and compassion in Ramadan.
