Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised alarm over potential threats to her safety, urging Nigerians to hold Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello accountable if she or her supporters face any attacks in Kogi State.
The senator made this known in a Facebook post on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, just hours before her planned visit to Kogi Central for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
“My dear people of Kogi Central, I look forward to our peaceful Sallah celebrations today. However, should we be met with or infiltrated by violence, Nigerians should hold Gov Ododo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio wholly responsible,” she wrote.
This comes amid tensions between Natasha and the political leadership in Kogi, particularly after she recently accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment. Despite the Kogi State Police Command’s directive to cancel her planned rally due to security concerns, the senator insisted on proceeding with her visit, assuring her supporters that she remains committed to her role as their elected representative.
The Kogi State Government had earlier imposed a ban on political rallies and public gatherings, citing intelligence reports of possible security threats. Additionally, an emergency curfew was declared in Natasha’s local government area, with the LGA Chairman, Hon. Amoka Eneji, stating that the measure was necessary to maintain peace and order.
Despite these restrictions, Senator Natasha has encouraged her supporters to turn out en masse for the celebrations, asserting that she has a duty to engage with her constituents.
The situation in Kogi remains tense as the political drama unfolds.
