King Charles III has resumed his royal engagements after briefly stepping back last week due to minor side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.

On Tuesday, the 76-year-old monarch was in high spirits as he hosted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, handing out honours to distinguished figures, including world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson and renowned broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh.

Johnson-Thompson, awarded an MBE for her contributions to athletics, remarked that the King “seemed in good spirits” despite the long day. Titchmarsh also praised Charles’s “boundless energy” after receiving his CBE.

Charles had momentarily postponed engagements last Thursday and Friday after doctors advised him to rest. However, palace sources reassured the public that it was merely a “minor bump” in his treatment journey.

The King is set to continue his royal duties, including his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, ahead of a planned state visit to Italy with Queen Camilla next week.

Since revealing his cancer diagnosis in February last year, Charles has steadily returned to public life, balancing treatments with his royal responsibilities. His resilience echoes that of his daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, who was also diagnosed with cancer but recently announced she is in remission.
