Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for stronger international collaboration to combat organized immigration crime, emphasizing that no single nation can tackle the growing menace alone.
Speaking at the prestigious Border Security Summit held at Lancaster House in London, Tunji-Ojo highlighted the urgent need for intelligence-sharing, advanced security technologies, and multinational agreements to strengthen border management.
The summit, which hosted over 30 global leaders—including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper—focused on migration policies, security threats, and strategies to curb illegal immigration.
Representing Nigeria’s firm commitment to fighting transnational crimes such as human trafficking, smuggling, and document fraud, Tunji-Ojo actively contributed to discussions on leveraging technology-driven solutions and dismantling criminal networks exploiting immigration loopholes.
In an interview with BBC UK, he reiterated the importance of bilateral and multilateral partnerships to enhance security frameworks, exchange intelligence, and deploy cutting-edge border management systems.
With migration challenges growing worldwide, the summit also explored the role of artificial intelligence in border security and counter-terrorism efforts. Engaging in high-level dialogues, Tunji-Ojo reinforced Nigeria’s dedication to secure, well-regulated immigration policies and sustainable global solutions.
As nations grapple with border security threats, Nigeria’s proactive approach signals a new era of international cooperation in tackling organized immigration crime.
