Former Nigerian Ambassador Debo Adesina Mourns Loss of His Beloved Mother

The family of Debo Adesina, former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo and ex-Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian newspapers, is in mourning following the passing of their beloved matriarch, Deaconess Esther Adesina.

In a statement released on Thursday, the family confirmed that Deaconess Esther Adesina passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 90.

The family’s tribute described her as a “dutiful and faithful soldier of Christ” who dedicated her life to her family and community. The statement further read, “Deaconess Esther Taiwo Ejide Adesina was a loyal and devoted wife, a loving and caring mother to both her biological and adopted children, and a pillar of support for her entire family, nuclear and extended.”

Known for her selflessness and compassion, she was also a gifted intellectual with an unparalleled love for education. A long-time deaconess of the Baptist Church, Deaconess Esther Adesina’s life was one of service, righteousness, and devotion.

Her son, Debo Adesina, served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Togo and is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian newspaper. The family described her as a visionary with an undiluted faith, whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
