Israeli airstrikes have killed at least nine people in southern Syria, according to local authorities and a war monitoring group, as Israeli forces carried out a raid in the region. The Israeli military confirmed its operation, stating it was responding to fire from militants during the operation.

The attack took place after what the Syrian local government described as an “Israeli incursion,” marking the first time Israeli forces advanced so deeply into the area. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the victims were local gunmen killed while trying to confront the Israeli forces. These gunmen were reportedly motivated by calls from mosques in the area urging jihad against the Israeli presence.
