A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Charles Atideka, has reportedly taken his own life after allegedly shooting and killing three people in a land dispute in Lagos State.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, the 63-year-old ex-officer allegedly opened fire on Tuesday, killing two family members—Richard Atideka and Latevi Atideka from Yovoyan community—and another victim, Muji Onilude, from Gberefu. A fourth victim, David Atideka, survived the attack.

Shortly after the incident, the police confirmed that Atideka ingested a poisonous substance and later died in the hospital.

However, in a shocking twist, his son, Henry Atideka, has dismissed claims of suicide, insisting his father collapsed while on his way to a police interrogation.

“My father was invited to the police station for questioning, but before he got there, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital,” Henry stated. “The accusations against him raised his blood pressure, and that’s what killed him.”

Henry further alleged that medical records do not confirm suicide and has called for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, the Medical Director of General Hospital Badagry, Dr. Olatunde Bakare, confirmed that Atideka was brought in unconscious and later died, but the hospital had not conducted any tests to determine the cause of death.
