A tragic accident claimed the lives of seven people and left several others injured early Saturday morning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near the NIPCO filling station axis.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, the fatal crash occurred at around 7:00 a.m. and involved three vehicles: a Mack truck (SEY 363 YY), a fuel tanker (T2900LA), and a commercial bus (LSD 180 YA).
Fifteen people were caught in the wreck—13 men and two women. Sadly, seven lost their lives on the spot, while four sustained injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the Mack truck was speeding and lost control, slamming into the tanker and bus, causing a devastating pile-up.
Emergency services responded quickly, with the injured rushed to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Centre Hospital in Ibafo. The bodies of the deceased were moved to Idera Morgue in Sagamu.
The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families. He urged members of the public whose loved ones were traveling through the route this morning and haven’t been heard from to contact the FRSC office in Ibafo for updates.
The tragic incident serves as yet another painful reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, especially at high speeds.
