Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has shared his joy after claiming the prestigious La Liga Goal of the Month award for his spectacular backheel goal against Osasuna. The Nigerian international’s stunning strike beat out stiff competition from Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu and CD Leganes’ Diego Garcia to claim the top spot.

In a heartfelt message posted on La Liga’s social media, Sadiq reflected on the memorable moment, saying, “Thank you so much for voting for me as the Goal of the Month. It’s a special moment for me.”

Describing the buildup to his winning goal, he continued: “It all started with a great cross from Canos. I was aiming for the second post when a defender blocked me, but then the ball was just in front of me. Without thinking, I used my backheel and celebrated right after.”

The goal, scored in the 88th minute, was crucial in securing a valuable point for Valencia in their 3-3 draw with Osasuna. “It was an important goal because we were down 3-2, and my goal earned us a point. I’m really happy about that,” Sadiq added.

This exceptional goal further solidifies Sadiq’s growing reputation in La Liga, with his performance against Osasuna, including a brilliant outside-the-box strike, earning him the nomination and the win for December’s Goal of the Month.
