Paris Saint-Germain have done it again, and in breathtaking style. The French giants sealed their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title on Saturday with a gritty 1-0 win over Angers at the Parc des Princes, extending their unbeaten streak and establishing an unassailable 24-point lead at the summit of the table.
A crisp volley from 19-year-old sensation Désiré Doué in the 55th minute was all it took to secure the historic victory. The teenager latched onto a beautifully floated cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, netting his fifth league goal of the season and setting off wild celebrations among the Parisian faithful.
With 74 points and just six rounds to go, PSG’s dominance leaves second-placed AS Monaco mathematically out of the title race, even if they win all remaining matches.
This marks PSG’s record-extending 13th Ligue 1 title, and astonishingly, their 11th since the 2012-13 season. Club captain Marquinhos also etched his name into the history books by becoming the only player ever to win 10 Ligue 1 titles, all with PSG since joining in 2013.
“It’s crazy, and I’m really happy. Staying with a top team for so long is a real challenge,” said the Brazilian defender. “It hurts when you don’t win the French championship, and it’s happened to me twice. The team deserves this. It’s in our DNA to fight every match.”
Though the first half remained goalless, PSG controlled the tempo with overwhelming possession and 11 shots on goal, nearly half taken by Gonçalo Ramos. But it wasn’t until the second half that they broke the deadlock.
Luis Enrique’s men couldn’t find a second goal, but it hardly mattered. The home fans were already chanting “We are the champions” before the final whistle, a chorus that echoed long into the night.
This triumph further cements Luis Enrique’s impact, having lost just two league matches all season in his debut campaign. Perhaps even more impressively, he’s done it without superstar Kylian Mbappé, who exited for Real Madrid last summer.
After the final whistle, Enrique shared a heartfelt moment with football director Luis Campos before being hoisted into the air by jubilant players and staff, a symbolic end to a season of tactical brilliance, youth-driven success, and fierce ambition.
With eyes now turning toward the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa, PSG’s quest for European glory is very much alive.
