In a landslide victory, Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the highly anticipated Anambra 2025 governorship election. Ukachukwu, who secured an overwhelming 1,455 votes in the primary held over the weekend, is now set to challenge the incumbent, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the November 8, 2025 election.
The results, announced by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Senator Bassey Otu, also revealed a significant gap between Ukachukwu and his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who managed just 67 votes. Other contenders in the race included Johnbosco Onunkwo with 26 votes and Edozie Madu, who secured 8 votes. The primary, which began on Saturday, concluded with 26 invalid votes.
In his victory speech, Ukachukwu expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible election process. He also praised the APC National Working Committee, Senator Otu, his fellow contenders, and the delegates for their roles in the successful primary. “I call on my fellow contestants to unite and rally around my candidacy. The most important thing now is to deliver Anambra to the APC,” Ukachukwu stated.
With a long-standing influence in Anambra’s political landscape, Ukachukwu reflected on his pivotal role in helping elect successive governors in the state. He described himself as a political “godfather,” but now, he’s ready to lead Anambra himself. “I have played the role of a godfather, but now, I am ready to father myself,” he emphasized.
As the APC candidate, Ukachukwu faces a challenging race against the current governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and George Moughalu of the Labour Party. With his political experience and strong support base, Ukachukwu is gearing up for what promises to be a fierce contest in the November election.
The stage is now set for one of Anambra’s most closely watched political battles. Will Ukachukwu’s deep political ties and experience help him unseat the incumbent? Only time will tell, but with his decisive victory in the APC primary, Ukachukwu has certainly made a bold statement in his quest for Anambra’s top job.
