LAGOS, NIGERIA – Nigerian internet personality and crossdresser Bobrisky, real name Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, has opened up about falling victim to a heartbreaking online romance scam that cost him $990 (approx. ₦1.4 million).
In a candid post shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, the controversial socialite expressed disbelief and embarrassment over being deceived by someone he believed was a genuine love interest.
“I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody,” Bobrisky wrote.
According to him, the scammer, who had been chatting with him for several months, initially claimed to be living in the United States, before saying he had moved to Canada. Throughout their communication, the imposter maintained a convincing emotional connection, often calling and showing concern about Bobrisky’s day-to-day life.
From Love to Loss: How the Scam Unfolded
The situation escalated when Bobrisky was contacted by a client from the U.S. for an advertisement deal. The client wanted to make a deposit via Cash App, which Bobrisky didn’t have access to. Trusting the man he had been speaking with, he asked him to receive the payment on his behalf.
“This guy I’ve been talking to said he would help with his Cash App. As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately,” Bobrisky revealed.
Bobrisky Issues Public Warning
Feeling deceived and disappointed, Bobrisky shared screenshots of their chats and a photo of the alleged scammer on his Instagram story, warning his millions of followers to remain vigilant against similar romance scams.
“Please be careful. There are many people out here pretending to love you but are only after what they can get,” he cautioned.
The incident has since sparked conversation online, with fans and followers offering mixed reactions, some sympathizing, others questioning how such a savvy influencer could fall prey to such deception.
