ILORIN, KWARA STATE — The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has officially shortlisted 1,800 candidates for senior secondary school teaching appointments in a statewide recruitment drive aimed at revamping the education sector.
The announcement was made via a statement from the Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, on Sunday in Ilorin. The selection follows a rigorous three-month screening process, which included computer-based testing and in-depth interviews.
According to Onile, the shortlisted applicants were carefully picked to match the teaching needs of the state’s 16 local government areas. The breakdown includes:
-
790 (44%) for STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
-
581 for core subjects
-
370 for specialized subjects
-
59 for technical subjects
“These teachers will be deployed based on a needs assessment conducted across the state’s public senior secondary schools,” Onile stated.
Mandatory Drug Test Begins April 9
In a bold move to ensure teacher integrity and student safety, all shortlisted candidates must undergo a compulsory drug test conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The initiative will be coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse, Hon. Mukail Aileru, and spans April 9 to 12, 2025.
Here’s the testing schedule:
-
April 9 (Wed): Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Patigi
-
April 10 (Thu): Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin
-
April 11 (Fri): Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, Moro
-
April 12 (Sat): Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West
“Candidates will not have access to their test results directly. NDLEA will submit certified results to TESCOM to prevent manipulation,” Onile emphasized.
Bonded for Six Years, Rural Focus
To address the chronic teacher shortage in rural areas, successful applicants will be required to sign a six-year non-transfer bond. This policy ensures continuity and stability in underserved communities.
During the documentation phase, shortlisted candidates must present:
-
Medical fitness certificates from state government hospitals
-
Original credentials & photocopies for records
-
A handwritten letter of job acceptance
Additional employment terms and service conditions will be communicated during this phase.
