In a chilling attack early Tuesday morning, suspected Lakurawa bandits killed three fishermen in the Sanyinna community, located in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The victims were engaged in their daily fishing activities when the ruthless assailants ambushed them, cutting their lives short in a violent and sudden attack.
This brutal raid follows closely on the heels of similar assaults in Sutti and Takkau villages within the same region, where two individuals were left injured after bandits launched separate attacks on Monday. The ongoing wave of violence has left residents in fear as security forces work to control the escalating situation.
Garzali Raka, the Special Assistant to the Chairman of Tangaza Council on Security, confirmed the latest assault. He also reported that the attackers made off with livestock, including cows, camels, sheep, and goats, during the previous day’s raids. Thanks to a swift response from security forces, the stolen animals were recovered in the Siddi community after a tense gun battle with the criminals.
Raka, however, expressed deep concern over the rising frequency of attacks, especially those occurring during the day. He noted that regions traditionally known for animal husbandry are now being targeted systematically. The security official urged both state and federal governments to enhance their efforts to secure the area, stressing that lasting peace and stability are crucial for the region’s development.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson for Sokoto State, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the attacks and assured the public that law enforcement is actively pursuing the criminals. “We are on the trail of these bandits and will ensure they face justice soon,” he stated.
As tensions rise, local communities continue to grapple with the fallout from these deadly raids, with many calling for greater protection and government intervention to stop the violence from spreading further.
