If you were stuck in traffic around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge last night, you’re not alone — and here’s why.
A container-laden truck caused major gridlock on Tuesday evening after it crashed into the steel height barrier near Admiralty Road, jamming the entrance to one of Lagos’ busiest bridges. The massive 40-foot container got wedged between the barrier and the trailer cab, leaving traffic at a near standstill and commuters fuming.
In response, the Lagos State Government has issued a travel advisory, urging motorists to avoid the Lekki-Ikoyi corridor and take alternative routes.
Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and LASTMA were quickly dispatched to manage the mess and clear the wreckage. By 10 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities had diverted traffic toward the Lekki Phase 1 tollgate corridor to ease the congestion.
Speaking on the situation, Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs for LASTMA, advised motorists to stay calm, drive safely, and — if possible — opt for Ikoyi Kingsway Road or other nearby routes.
“We’re on top of it, but we urge road users to cooperate and remain patient,” Adebayo said.
While cleanup efforts are ongoing, one thing’s clear: Lagos traffic waits for no one — except a stuck container truck.
