ECOWAS Sends Mission to Help Guinea Return to Democracy

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has sent a technical team to Guinea. This is part of its ongoing efforts to support the country’s return to constitutional rule.

The mission was announced by ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Omar Touray, in a statement on Monday. The goal is to help Guinea move back to democratic governance after a period of political transition.

The team is led by Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. They arrived in Conakry and met with Guinean leaders on April 10 and 11.

During the visit, both sides discussed how to carry out a 10-point agreement. This agreement sets out a clear plan for Guinea to return to constitutional order.

Ambassador Musah said ECOWAS is fully committed to helping Guinea through this process.

“We are here to support Guinea and make sure the agreement is followed,” he stated.

The talks focused on how to monitor the progress of the agreement and make sure all points are being implemented as planned.
