In a heartfelt show of solidarity, the Borno State Government has donated ₦10 million and essential food items to the families of the 276 Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists 11 years ago. The solemn event, held on Monday in Chibok Local Government Area, marked the 11th anniversary of the harrowing abduction that shook the world.

According to a statement shared on Tuesday via the official Facebook page of the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security, the commemoration brought together grieving parents, community leaders, and government officials in a unified call for continued action and hope.

A Tragic Chapter Remembered

On April 14, 2014, the world watched in horror as 276 girls were forcefully taken from their dormitories at Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok. Since then, 189 have been rescued, while efforts persist to locate and safely return the remaining missing girls.

The government’s statement confirmed that 18 of the rescued girls are currently receiving psychosocial care, vocational training, and academic tutoring under the Borno State Government’s rehabilitation program. These girls are also preparing to retake their WAEC exams, symbolizing a path to recovery and reintegration.

Governor’s Message of Hope and Commitment

Representing Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the emotional anniversary event, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, delivered a message filled with empathy and resolve.

We will continue to walk with you, support you, and never give up until every missing girl is found, Gambo assured. The rescued girls are not just being rehabilitated, they are being given a new chance at life.

In addition to emotional reassurances, the government extended ₦10 million in cash support and food supplies to the 276 affected parents, an act meant to not only provide relief but reaffirm the state’s unwavering commitment.

Local Leaders Praise Continued Support

Chibok’s Executive Chairman, Mustapha Modu, and Hon. Pogu Lawan, the area’s representative in the Borno State House of Assembly, commended the government’s consistent support for Chibok. Emphasizing the need for unrelenting efforts until every girl is found and every affected family healed.

We deeply appreciate the government’s compassion and commitment, said Lawan. But our hearts will only be at peace when the last missing girl is home.
