Nigerians can look forward to an extended Easter weekend as the Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations.

This announcement was made by Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in a statement released on Tuesday from Abuja. The public holidays are set aside to allow Christians across the country to observe the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the central message of Easter.

A Message of Hope from the Minister

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Christians nationwide, describing Easter as a season of reflection, sacrifice, and renewed hope. He called on Nigerians to mirror the selflessness and compassion demonstrated by Jesus Christ through His death on the cross.

“The sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity should inspire us all to live in unity and love,” the minister emphasized.

Call for Prayers and National Unity

Dr. Tunji-Ojo used the occasion to urge Nigerians to pray for peace, stability, and progress during the Easter holidays. He stressed that the Easter season is not just a time for celebration but also an opportunity for deep reflection and collective prayer for the nation’s well-being.

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to delivering on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reposition Nigeria for growth, equity, and development.

As part of the Easter spirit, the minister encouraged citizens to extend kind gestures to one another and show love beyond their immediate circles.
