Shimite Bello Death: Delta Governor’s Adviser Dies Under Suspicious Circumstances, Husband Arrested for Alleged Poisoning

Delta State is reeling from the shocking death of Mrs. Shimite Bello Love (née Nwakalo), a prominent political figure and Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export. Known to many as Madam Sabificate, Shimite died under deeply suspicious circumstances on Easter Sunday, and her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, is now in police custody.

Sources close to the family say Shimite was vibrant and full of life just a day before her death. But by Easter evening, she was reportedly found unresponsive at home, foaming at the mouth—a disturbing sign that led to suspicions of poisoning.

She was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba, but tragically pronounced dead on arrival.

“I spoke with her for over an hour on Saturday,” a devastated family member told SaharaReporters. “She was so full of life, excited about meetings she had attended. Nothing seemed off. But by Sunday, she wasn’t responding to messages—which was strange.”

The alarm was raised by Shimite’s housemaid, who called her elder brother in distress. She claimed Pastor David had locked Shimite inside the house all day. When her brother arrived, he found her unconscious. It was too late.

Husband Under Investigation

Police have since arrested Pastor David Favour Love, Shimite’s husband, who is being held on suspicion of poisoning her. Witnesses and family members allege a disturbing pattern of control and manipulation.

According to those close to the late adviser, her husband had become increasingly possessive, allegedly isolating her from friends and family, and even changing property titles in Abuja and other locations to his name.

“He cut everyone off. Even her brother wasn’t allowed to visit,” one source claimed. “She stopped going to the office. He followed her everywhere. It’s like she was under a spell.”

Shimite, a respected businesswoman and CEO of the Quintessential Group, previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. She also contested for the Delta State House of Assembly seat for Oshimili North in the 2023 PDP primaries.

Her death has left a gaping hole in both political and entrepreneurial circles in Delta State.

“She believed in him because he was a pastor,” another family source said. “She used to say, ‘He’s my spiritual father; he sees everything.’ But how could someone with so much promise and intelligence fall into something so dark?”

A City Mourns

As of the time of this report, attempts to contact the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful.

Shimite’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary as investigations continue.

The people of Delta State—and Nigeria at large—are left with questions, grief, and a growing call for justice.
