After spending over two months behind bars, Jude Okoye — the elder brother and former manager of iconic music duo Psquare — has finally been released from Ikoyi Prison following a high-profile ₦1.38 billion money laundering trial.
Jude, who managed the Psquare brand for years and now runs Northside Music Ltd, had been in custody after struggling to meet strict bail conditions set by the court. He was initially granted bail at ₦100 million after pleading not guilty to a seven-count charge of laundering massive sums in naira, dollars, and pounds.
The case, which is being heard before Justice A. Owoeye at the Federal High Court in Lagos, took a deeper turn in March when the EFCC slammed him with four additional charges, alleging he diverted large sums of music royalties intended for his younger brothers — Peter and Paul Okoye.
According to court documents, Jude was accused of converting:
- $767,544.15
- £34,537.59
- $133,566.49
- $118,652.20
…into his personal accounts, allegedly depriving Peter Okoye of his rightful share.
Unable to meet the additional ₦50 million bail set for the fresh charges, Jude remained in prison until this week.
But on Wednesday evening, Paul Okoye (aka Rudeboy) took to Instagram with a celebratory post, revealing that his elder brother had finally regained his freedom — just in time to mark his birthday.
“Jude is finally out after 2 months +. All their efforts to frustrate his bail have finally collapsed. Welcome home brother @judeengees. And happy birthday,” Paul wrote, sharing a video of Jude walking out of the prison gates and reuniting with family.
Meanwhile, during a recent court session, Peter Okoye reportedly gave a statement about his strained business relationship with Jude, adding more tension to an already dramatic family saga.
As the trial continues, all eyes are on how this high-stakes legal showdown will unfold — and what it means for one of Afrobeats’ most famous families.
