Ibadan, April 26, 2025 – The Oyo State Government has taken strong steps to fight malaria. It launched a malaria reference laboratory to help with quick testing and proper treatment.
This action was announced by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, during the World Malaria Day 2025 event held in Akinyele Local Government, Moniya, Ibadan.
Accurate Testing and Fast Treatment
Dr. Ajetunmobi said the new lab will help doctors test patients faster and treat malaria correctly. She also said that Governor Seyi Makinde has released funds to provide free mosquito nets for all households.
This Year’s Theme: “Malaria Ends with Us”
The theme for 2025 is: “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.”
The slogan is: “Stay Committed.”

Malaria Still a Big Problem
Dr. Ajetunmobi explained that malaria is still a big health issue in Nigeria.
It mostly affects young children and pregnant women. It also slows down progress in communities.
“We must take real action. We need strong policies, enough money, and support from the people,” she said.
Local Government Shows Support
The Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwale Akinyele, praised the government for helping people in rural areas.
He asked residents to sleep under mosquito nets and go to clinics for proper treatment when sick.
He also thanked Governor Makinde for improving health in the state and working towards Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes good health.
Global Partners Applaud Oyo
Groups like WHO, Breakthrough Action Nigeria, and PMI joined the event.
They praised Oyo for supporting health campaigns and promised to keep working with the state to stop malaria.
