Ibadan, Oyo State – April 26, 2025 – The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has issued a strong warning to land grabbers and trespassers. He told them to leave all illegally acquired lands in Ibadan immediately or be ready to face serious consequences.

Emergency Meeting with Traditional Leaders

The warning came during an emergency meeting at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan. The meeting included Obas, Mogajis, and Baales from boundary communities between Ibadan (Oyo State) and Iwo (Osun State).

Oba Olakulehin, speaking through the Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, condemned the actions of those encroaching on Ibadan territory.

“The Oba River has marked the boundary from time immemorial,” the monarch declared.

Ibadan Is Peaceful, Not Weak

Oba Olakulehin stated that Ibadan people are known for peace and hospitality. However, he warned that this should not be taken for weakness.

“Yiyo ekun bi t’ojo ko,” he said, meaning, “Don’t mistake a tiger’s calmness for rain.”

He stressed that anyone occupying Ibadan land illegally must vacate the area without delay, for their own safety.

Traditional Leaders Urged to Defend Ibadan Lands

The Olubadan instructed all local chiefs in the affected areas to protect their communities. He asked them to ensure that Ibadan’s land ownership is not compromised.

“Trespassers should be prepared to face the music,” he warned.

He also urged them to support efforts by the Olubadan and the Oyo State Government to reclaim all lands taken unlawfully.

Support from Key Figures

Notable figures at the meeting included:

  • High Chief (Senator) Sharafadeen Ali, Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland

  • Other Obas, Mogajis, and Baales from boundary communities

Their presence showed strong unity and shared commitment to protecting Ibadanland.

Earlier Warnings Against Land Grabbing

This is not the first time the Olubadan has addressed the issue. Just last week, during the installation of new compound and village heads, he warned against land grabbing and disrespect within families.

He reminded the new leaders that peace must be maintained in their domains.

“No meaningful development can take place without peace,” he said.

Conclusion

The Olubadan has made it clear: Ibadan will not tolerate land theft. With the backing of traditional leaders and the state government, efforts to reclaim illegally occupied land are underway.
