Kebbi Police Arrest Suspect for Murder, Recover Firearms and Ammunition in Bena

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with a case of culpable homicide and recovered two rifles, live ammunition, and other dangerous weapons in Bena, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred on October 16, 2025, when one Alhaji Babuga Muhammad was attacked while traveling from Bena town to his village, Karaye, in the Bagega district of Maru LGA, Zamfara State.

The victim was reportedly ambushed near a forest close to Malakachi village, where a gang of hoodlums seized and fatally attacked him with a machete. Police operatives from the Bena Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly and evacuated the victim to the General Hospital in Bena, where he was confirmed dead.

Following swift investigation, officers arrested a 50-year-old suspect identified as Muhammad Wanzam of Bena town. The suspect confessed to conspiring with an accomplice, Nuhu Bena—who remains at large—to kill the victim without provocation.

A search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one Dane gun, two live ammunition, one magazine, and the cutlass used in the crime.

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the DPO and his team for their professionalism and intelligence-driven approach. He ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead seek redress through lawful channels. He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kebbi State, calling on residents to continue supporting police operations by promptly reporting suspicious movements or criminal activities.
