The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media report alleging that a retired Assistant Controller of Customs constructed a private airport in the Argungu forest for smuggling cocaine and other illicit drugs into Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command described the report as a “baseless and mischievous fabrication” aimed at tarnishing the image of the state and discrediting the integrity and professionalism of security personnel.
“The Command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as an orchestrated attempt to create unnecessary fear, embolden unscrupulous elements, and undermine ongoing operations in the state,” the statement read.
The Police stressed that the allegations were entirely unfounded, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining peace, and ensuring that Kebbi State does not become a safe haven for criminals.
CSP Abubakar urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and warned individuals spreading such fake news to desist, noting that such actions have serious implications for both individuals and society at large.
He added that the Command will continue to collaborate with credible media professionals to provide accurate information and combat the rising tide of misinformation and fake news.
The Police assured residents of their continued vigilance and dedication to ensuring safety, stability, and public trust across the state.
